OGDEN — The family of Connecticut elementary school shooting victim Emilie Parker will hold a public memorial service Thursday at Ben Lomond High School.
The event will be at 7 p.m. in the atrium of the school, at 800 Jackson Ave., said Brad Schultz, a friend of the Parkers who is helping to organize the event.
“The point is for the community to get together to honor Emilie,” he said.
Emilie is among the 20 children who died Friday in the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. The incident is one of the worst attacks on schoolchildren in U.S. history.
Several family members are expected to attend the service.
Brooke Prothero is spearheading the memorial service, Schultz added.
The memorial service will feature a video about Emilie and may include the launching of sky lanterns in honor of the victims of Friday’s shooting, Schultz said.
The Parker family has requested that only relatives and close friends attend Emilie’s wake Friday evening at Myers Mortuary and her funeral Saturday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ Rock Cliff Stake Center, both in Ogden.
The Emilie Parker Fund is continuing to accept donations to help the Parkers’ financial needs. Donations may be made at any America First Credit Union.
