Trial set for Layton man charged with 26 counts of rape, sex abuse

FARMINGTON — A three-day trial has been set for a man charged with 26 felonies.

Daniel John Moran, 50, of Layton, appeared in 2nd District Court on Wednesday with his attorney, C. Danny Frazier, Jr.

Judge David Hamilton set the three-day jury trial for Feb. 4, Feb. 5, and Feb. 7.

Moran is charged with 10 counts of rape, 10 counts of forcible sodomy, three counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child and one count of sodomy on a child, all first-degree felonies. He also is charged with two counts of forcible sexual abuse, second-degree felonies.

Moran was arrested in August 2011 after a juvenile girl called police to report Moran had hit her.

The girl told police she had been raped by Moran multiple times and had been asked to perform oral sex during a multiple-year period, according to the probable cause statement.

Moran has been held in Davis County Jail without bail since his arrest.
