Editor, Hooper folks, there will not be a Fourth of July celebration in Hooper next year. After 100 years of celebrating the Fourth of July in Hooper, it will not happen again as long as we have our current mayor and city council. I spoke to Mayor Korry Green about having the Fourth of July celebration and he told me that Hooper could not afford it. I told him there were plenty of people who would volunteer their time. I believe vendors would come and bring their wares, there would be plenty of food and the whole thing could be done. Mayor Green told me that he asked for volunteers and could not get anyone. He also told me if anyone wanted to celebrate the fourth of July, there are other cities that are celebrating and people could go to the cities that are celebrating. Early in the year, a lady told me that she would like to be charge of the Fourth of July celebration and asked me to give her name and phone number to Mayor Korry Green. I did so, but because Mayor Green had decided that there would be no Four of July celebration, she is now helping the group that is planning Tomato Days. Who are the citizens of Hooper? Does it matter what we might want? Does it only matter what the mayor and city council want? Betty Wilson Hooper
