Sadness for Emilie the color pink in Ogden area

OGDEN -- Members of the Ogden High School student government decorated the front of their school with pink ribbons in memory of Emilie Parker, 6, on Wednesday, joining many others in the Ogden area in remembering the girl shot in Newtown, Conn., last week.

A statement from the Parker family says, “You may have noticed a splash of pink in the Ogden area. Actually everywhere you look, that’s all you see. Pink is Emilie’s favorite color. It didn’t matter what color pink, it just had to be pink. This immense expression of Utah’s love and support for the Parker family has been overwhelming and emotional.”

However, the family says they will wear green and white — the colors of Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn. — during a 7 p.m. community memorial service today at Ben Lomond High School in Ogden. Emilie's parents met at Ben Lomond High.

Across the Ogden area, residents have written messages of encouragement to the Parker family and hung pink ribbons in memory of Emilie.
