SALT LAKE CITY -- The Utah Avalanche Center has issued a special avalanche bulletin for the Western Uintas and Manti Skyline area mountains.
The concern is that an avalanche accident could occur over the holidays. The Western Uintas and Manti Skyline area mountains have a weak underlying snowpack with a recent new snow slab added on top.
Winds have increased the danger recently by drifting snow, and large human-triggered avalanches have already occurred. These precarious conditions will persist into next week.
Everyone is asked to check the Utah Avalanche Center daily avalanche advisory for any region they plan to recreate in.
Additional snowstorms through Christmas will increase the danger.
Backcountry travelers should check monitor the website at www.utahavalanchecenter.org or call 888-999-4019.
Also check for road closures by calling the UDOT recording at 801-975-4838.
