WEST HAVEN -- A massive fire destroyed a large home in West Haven late Friday night.
The blaze at 3697 W. 4150 South was reported around 9:25 p.m., said Ted Black, fire marshal for the Weber Fire District.
When firefighters arrived, the garage of the upscale home was fully engulfed in flames. Fire had also spread to the interior of the dwelling.
The fire appears to have started in the garage, but the cause of the blaze had not been determined late Friday night, Black said at the scene.
In addition to destroying the house, the blaze also demolished two automobiles and a trailer. Watch videos of the fire here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zOhtK5BRG_E and here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNNukQrvmXc
No one was home when the fire broke out and there were no injuries, said Black.
Sandy Bryan, who lives next door to the house, said she was at home and heard a loud boom. She ran outside and heard people screaming, then saw that her neighbor's entire garage was engulfed in flames.
Bryan said the owner of the house is Paul Cowley.
Another neighbor, who declined to give her name, said she was in her house when she heard a loud explosion and then rushed outside to also find the garage of the home on fire.
The blaze was visible for several blocks.
Many neighbors stood along the street watching as firefighters worked to knock down flames engulfing a car in the driveway and shooting high from the roof of the home into the frigid air. Several onlookers covered themselves in blankets.
Black estimated damages to the home and its contents at $600,000.
As of 12:15 a.m. Saturday, fire crews were still at the house mopping up hot spots.
About 25 firefighters from the Weber Fire District, and Ogden, Riverdale and Roy fire departments responded. There were two engines, two ladder trucks and a pair of ambulances at the scene.
Several police officers were also dispatched to the fire.
