SYRACUSE -- Attendance at Syracuse High School was down 60 percent today amid shooting fears generated by rumors circulating on social media.
School officials said they and police have found no evidence to indicate there was any shooting planned at the school.
Principal Wendy Nelson said that Syracuse Police and Hill Air Force Base security personnel were patrolling the halls and grounds of the school today.
Letters were sent out earlier this week and a robo call was made Thursday night advising parents that rumors were circulating but that officials had found no evidence. Still, cautionary measures would be taken.
"Students were told no backpacks or bags would be allowed inside the school on Friday," Nelson said.
Other schools in the Davis School District have also seen heightened security today.
