Editor, The state of Utah, where the Republican Party has a super majority in the legislature, is intent on having low employment numbers. One way to do this is to allow the potential employers to use the credit scores of potential new hires as a tool for keeping people in need of employment from casting a dark shadow on those numbers. Those same new hires often need the employment to help to correct their low credit rating with the income that they would get as employees. These same employers should be willing to hire people with low credit to begin at the entry level so they can work to improve their credit numbers. The governor claims that anyone who wants a job can get one and needs to insure that all open positions with private employers are available to all those who want to apply for them. The last reported unemployment for Utah was 5 percent, which is among the lowest in the country. Many of the unemployed have lost their unemployment rights and are not listed on the rolls or have stopped trying because of the real difficulty with getting a job to make the unemployment number reading actual. The potential employers need to make it easier to get a position, not harder, for all who want to work for them. Clifford Tornow Roy
