SALT LAKE CITY -- A local 12th-grade student was awarded a $1,000 Utah Educational Savings Plan college savings certificate for winning the "Make Your Mark" Bookmark Contest sponsored by UESP and Zions Bank.
Kaylee Tanner, 17, who lives in Kaysville and divides her school hours between home school and Davis High School, was one of the contest's two winners in the ninth- to 12th-grade category. Her bookmark design was selected from nearly 2,500 entries.
Contest judges were Gov. Gary R. Herbert; Kyle Beckerman, REAL Salt Lake soccer star; Dr. Cynthia A. Bioteau, president of Salt Lake Community College; and Nadine Wimmer, KSL-TV anchor. Kaylee was honored with other winners at a ceremony in November at Zions Bank headquarters in downtown Salt Lake City.
Although Kaylee has long been putting money she earns aside for college, she says the $1,000 college savings certificate helps her appreciate her college savings in a new way.
