Editor, The proposal to station armed police in all schools is a sad commentary on the state of our country and the violence that is tolerated. Unfortunately, the likelihood of this being implemented is quite remote. The cost would be prohibitive, especially in view of the reluctance to raise taxes which would most certainly be required if this were to be done. In addition, why stop at schools? Why not have armed police at churches, movie theaters, shopping malls as well as other venues where mass shootings have taken place? A policeman stationed at the Connecticut school would have had little chance of overcoming the shooter, since the shooter had multiple weapons, including some form of repeating weapon. Should the police have machine guns, hand grenades, or other high powered weapons to counteract this? Do we really wish to go back to the days of the OK Corral with guns blazing away on the streets? Why not limit or eliminate the high powered, high volume weapons which have no place in a supposed civilized society in which we hope to live. Harry Senekjian Ogden
