UHP trooper hit by sliding vehicle on I-15

SALT LAKE CITY -- Authorities say a Utah Highway Patrol trooper was hospitalized after being hit by a vehicle during a snowstorm on a slippery Salt Lake City-area freeway.

The trooper wasn't immediately identified, and UHP Cpl. Todd Johnson tells KTVX-TV News 4 the injuries aren't believed to be life-threatening.

The accident happened while the trooper was setting out flares about 6:30 p.m. Monday after an earlier crash on Interstate 15 near 7600 South.

The UHP says a passing motorist lost control of a Jeep and the vehicle slid into the freeway wall and hit the trooper.

It wasn't immediately clear if the motorist was ticketed.

Johnson says the accident is a reminder for motorists to reduce vehicle speeds during wet and snowy weather.
