Donald Ray Gerhardt will celebrate his 80th birthday with his family at the Peach Tree Place in West Haven.
He was born on Dec. 24, 1932, to Frieda Gerling and Albert Gerhardt in Evansville, Ind.
He joined the Air Force in 1951 and served his country for a short time in Korea. After the war, he was stationed at Hill Air Force Base and decided to make Ogden his home permanently.
He worked for the U.S. Postal Service and Defense Depot Ogden, retiring after 32 years of service.
He married Goldie Peterson Cheney in 1972, and they enjoyed 35 years together residing in Farr West.
Hobbies he has enjoyed are camping, fishing and flying his Birmingham Roller, Homer and Tumbler pigeons.
He is currently a resident at the Peach Tree Place, where he enjoys entertaining the staff and residents with his silly sense of humor and his gift of song during their weekly van rides.
His children and spouses are Dolly Hughes, Darla Sneider, Donna Owen, Judy Ronk, Arley Gerhardt, Jackie and Merwin Holgate, Robert and Shari Cheney, Kathy Cheney, Bruce and Ann Cheney, Glen Cheney, Sherri and Barry DeHaan, and Jolene and Neil Palmer.
He has 35 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
