Nadeen Hackwell

Nadeen Wheeler Hackwell of Ogden celebrated her 90th birthday with a family dinner held in her honor at Jeremiah’s Restaurant on Dec. 21.

She was born on Dec. 21, 1922, in Ogden, the seventh of nine children born to William Sherman and Edna Audrey Wheeler. She attended Washington High School and Utah School for the Blind in Ogden. She enjoyed singing in a local band called the Adlibs with her husband Francis James Hackwell. She later sang with the Melodonic Chorus at various events in Ogden.She worked at the Ogden Arsenal during the war years, raising four boys. After they finished school, she worked for the Internal Revenue Service, where she received many awards.

She is a member of the Mound Fort LDS Stake, the Ogden Utah Association of the Blind and the Utah Council of the Blind. She was a member of the Ogden Elks Club, No. 719, where she received many awards. She was also a member of the Ogden Eagles Club. She and her husband played music in their band at the Elks Club, Eagles, officers’ clubs at Hill Air Force Base and Defense Depot Ogden. They also played at other venues. She was the vocalist, and he was the drummer.

She attends the Golden Hours Senior Center for the weekly sing along and lunch. She married her husband on Feb. 21, 1946, and they were married for 49 years. He died on April 22, 1995.

Their children and spouses are Gary and RaNae Hackwell, Alan and Tami Hackwell, Ron and Shelly Hackwell, Gordon Ray Hackwell (deceased), and Jay and Joann Hackwell.
