The party is at your house this year.
During this lean programming season, New Year's Eve specials are the sure bets. They supply hot music acts, A-list celebrities and the right dash of humor.
Why go out when you can stay in and have your own party? Don't want to be a hermit? Have your party and keep one of the numerous specials playing in the background.
Say goodbye to 2012 and hello to 2013 with these choices, all airing Monday, Dec. 31:
"New Year's Rockin' Eve Celebrates Dick Clark" (9 p.m., KTVX Channel 4). Jenny McCarthy and Fergie (the rock star, not the British royal) are hosting this tribute to Dick Clark, who started televised New Year's Eve specials in 1972. Carley Rae Jepsen ("Call Me Maybe"), Justin Bieber and Jason Aldean contribute musically.
"New Year's Eve Live!" (11 p.m., KSTU Channel 13). Live from Las Vegas, acts such as Carmen Electra, Lifehouse and "American Idol" winner Phillip Phillips perform.
"New Year's Eve with Carson Daly" (9 p.m., KSL Channel 5). The host of "The Voice" is usually on the cutting edge. Of all the parties of the night, this is the one where the next big act of tomorrow probably will be seen first.
"Anderson Cooper" (10 p.m., CNN). Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin team up for another year. The special, live from Times Square, is the most unpredictable and freewheeling moments of the entire year.
"All American New Years" (9 p.m., Fox News). Pat Benatar and Sarah Brightman are the entertainment, live from Times Square.
Also, music channels Fuse and BET will offer live music starting at 10 p.m.
And if you're not in the mood for music and merrymaking, marathons of current and classic series can be found on AMC ("The Walking Dead"), HGTV ("House Hunters"), IFC ("Portlandia"), History ("Pawn Stars"), HBO ("True Blood"), and SyFy ("Twilight Zone").
