Our focus needs to be more on science

Editor,

Miss Utah, Kara Arnold, wants young women to get interested in science. Good luck with that. The entire news media has a five word business plan; "If it bleeds it leads." Unfortunately science doesn’t bleed. How can you become interested in something you never hear about?

In forty years of reading this newspaper you have written one interesting science article. It was about our Utah "Spider Goats." Less than 1 percent of the people I talk to know that we have spider goats in Logan.

I would like to know what percentage of Weber State students are majoring in real science. I’m guessing 3 percent. Our last economic prosperity came from the dot-com boom during the Clinton years. Science may be the most important factor in our future quality of life.

Perhaps this newspaper could find a reporter to write a science article. If not, please rerun the spider goat article.
