SLC police rule 2 men’s deaths murder-suicide

SALT LAKE CITY — Police who found two men dead in a Salt Lake City home last week have ruled the deaths a murder-suicide.

Authorities say it appears a 70-year-old man shot his 67-year-old domestic partner before killing himself. Sgt. Shawn Josephson says both men had significant medical issues.

Police say a hospice worker checked on the men Wednesday, and contacted police when phone calls went unanswered on Friday.

The men’s names have not been made public. Josephson says police are having an especially hard time contacting the next of kin because the men listed each other as the emergency contact on documents.

The incident marks Salt Lake City’s first homicide of 2013.
