Fugitive in Orem cop injury case headed to prison

SALT LAKE CITY — A man accused of running over a Utah police officer in 1999 and escaping custody has been sentenced to three to 45 years in prison.

A Utah judge on Wednesday sentenced 36-year-old Reinhold Neumann, who was charged with aggravated assault, escaping from custody, bail jumping and other felonies.
Police say Neumann left an Orem Police officer with serious injuries after running over him with a stolen vehicle. Neumann was arrested in Pasadena, Calif., in 2003 and returned to Utah, but was freed on $50,000 bond and disappeared.

Neumann was recaptured in Las Vegas in August when he was found to be working at a casino restaurant under another name.
