SALT LAKE CITY -- Utah's education system is ranked 38th in the nation according to a new study from a national education magazine.
Education Week gave Utah a C in its annual Quality Counts reports.
The grades are based on six factors, including school finance, K-12 achievement and teaching conditions.
The magazine also issued a C-plus grade for the country as a whole.
Utah was ranked 42nd last year and 41st in 2011.
The state associate superintendent tells The Salt Lake Tribune ( http://bit.ly/Xnzhej ) the way funding factors into the rankings keeps Utah low on the list.
