S. Leroy “Bud” Huffaker and Kathryn Gunnell were married 50 years ago on Jan. 11, 1963, in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Logan Temple. The couple and their children will celebrate with a family dinner on Jan. 19.

They met while attending Utah State University and remain loyal Aggies fans to this day.

He grew up on the family ranch in Woodruff. After graduating from USU, he traveled the world, working for Chicago Bridge and Iron as an engineer. He claims to be retired now, but still works as a consultant. Now his sweetheart is able to travel with him. He enjoys fishing, golfing and working in the yard.

She grew up in Ogden and completed a degree in elementary education from USU, just in time to help her husband finish his schooling. She enjoys quilting, gardening and traveling with her husband.

They raised nine children in Bountiful and Layton before moving to Everett, Wash., in 1988. They moved back to Utah in 2006 and now reside in Plain City, but their fifth wheel is always packed and ready to go.

Their children and spouses are Jerilyn and Tom Kidd, Shelby Huffaker, Tim Huffaker, Nancy and Earl Cole, Perry and Sarah Huffaker, Bert and Melanie Huffaker, Thomas and Kelli Huffaker, Ryan and Tanya Huffaker, and Chris and Lesley Huffaker. They say that the best thing about having nine children is the 22 grandchildren they have been blessed with.
