OGDEN — United Way of Northern Utah is looking for reading tutors for Top of Utah elementary schools.
Tutors normally are matched with two children they read with for a half-hour twice each week, making their total commitment one hour, two days a week.
Volunteers will be assigned to the school of their choice or where there is a need.
Sally Carter, volunteer coordinator, said the process of signing up has been streamlined to take very little time.
Those interested may visit uwnu.org, click on the blue volunteer banner and then fill out a volunteer application.
Interested tutors also may call 801-399-5584 and ask for Carter or Bev Campbell, also a volunteer coordinator.
Those who want to visit the United Way office at 2955 Harrison Blvd. may receive help filling out their application for tutoring.
Tutors must pass a simple background check.
Carter is placing tutors in Ogden, Weber County, Brigham City and Morgan.
Carter said many of the regular tutors this year are missing because of the flu.
“We need healthy souls with flu shots,” she said.
