LAYTON -- Layton police officers stopped to question two men taking an early-morning Sunday stroll.
As they questiond the men, officers recovered several stolen items, money and financial cards the two men had in their possession.
Christopher Lee Wright, 27, and Christopher Dee Reynolds, 29, both of Layton, were booked into Davis County jail in Farmington on Sunday, according to a news release issued by Layton Police Lt. Shawn Horton.
Reynolds was booked on suspicion of vehicle burglary, felony theft, felony possession of stolen property and criminal trespass, Horton said.
Wright was booked on suspicion of several felony burglaries and theft, failure to register as a sex offender and several counts of criminal trespass.
At 4 a.m. Sunday, a Layton police officer made contact with the two men, who were walking in the area of Main Street and Hill Field Road in Layton, a downtown area of the city, Horton said.
Because so few people are out walking at that hour, particularly in light of temperatures in the single digits or below, the officer stopped the pair to talk with them, Horton said.
Both men consented to a search of their belongings. During the search, police recovered items from a vehicle burglary, Horton said.
Upon further investigation, Horton said, police learned Wright had committed a residential burglary, along with several other business and vehicle burglaries in the Layton area.
Police, in their follow-up investigation, recovered property stolen in many of the burglaries the two men committed.
Horton said Layton police detectives are continuing a follow-up investigation to identify the victims and return their stolen property.
