SALT LAKE CITY -- The Utah Supreme Court has delayed the custody swap of a 2-year-old from her adoptive parents a biological father she's never met.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports that the ruling cancels Wednesday's hearing in Provo when biological father Terry Achane was going to get custody of his daughter, Teleah. Achane was on his way to Utah from his home in South Carolina when he heard the news.
The court ordered the temporary hold based on a petition for emergency relief from the adoptive parents, Jared and Kristi Frei of Provo, Utah. The Freis have raised Teleah since she was born in 2010.
A state district judge ruled in November that Teleah had been illegally given away in adoption without Achane's consent.
