The Utah State Office of Education on Wednesday announced the winners for the state's 29th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Essay and Video contest.
The competition was open to seventh- through 12th-graders. The local winners are:
* Mckay Holbrook, a 12th-grader from Woods Cross High, in the Davis School District, in the essay category. Mckay is also the overall essay prize winner for high school students.
* Tyce Peterson, an eighth-grader from Syracuse Arts Academy, a Davis County charter school, for video.
* Taylor Dillon, Carolyn Hammon, Daisy Mele and Matthew Roberts, 10th-graders from Woods Cross High School, Davis School District, for video.
Mikinley and Valerie Morgan also were the overall high school video winners.
* Bradan Jones, Kaitland Garner, Veronica Hanna and Kaleb Christensen, also
12th-graders from Woods Cross High School, for video.
