Editor,
Now that elections are over, Congress is back to their same old games. No longer do they have to act like they care about the American people, they can go back to breaking the backs of the people who put them in power and lining their pockets with lobbyist money. They don’t care that only 17.8 percent of the Americans polled think they are doing a good job.
While most of us are working our butts off to make ends meet, they haven’t worked a week in the new year. There aren’t pressing issues to be fixed; the fiscal cliff was averted so everything is peachy. It doesn’t matter that the sequestration is looming large in the headlights. It doesn’t affect Congress; its members will still get their $6 billion in pay and benefits annually. It sucks that they don’t worry about the rest of the American People.
There is a large population of federal workers who are looking at furloughs and wondering how they will pay their bills if that happens. It goes beyond that group since the money that they will not be getting paid will not be spent in the communities they live in. So, it will snowball and affect more than just the government workers.
Congressional members act like selfish children fighting over toys. They’re more worried about corporations than the people who voted them in.
America should stop the foreign welfare programs and help the American people first. Yes, America is thought of as the Big Brother for all, but the time has come to close our doors, get our house in order and then we can help people once we can help ourselves. Quit give tax breaks to companies that post record profits quarter after quarter and let’s use that money to offset some of our debt.
Term limits for Congress are something that should be implemented. If we don’t have career politicians hanging out forever on the Hill, lobbyists won’t be able to get money in their pockets and elected officials would be working for us again.
Let representatives know you aren’t happy. Flood their email, Twitter and Facebook pages.
