LDS Church grant to aid detox center

SALT LAKE CITY — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced a $200,000 challenge grant to help expand and remodel the Volunteers of America’s Adult Detoxification Center in Salt Lake City.

Vice President Zach Bale says Volunteers of America’s center has been in the same building for 26 years and needs the major renovation. He said they regularly are full and have to turn away people seeking shelter.

The remodel calls for capacity at the center to increase by 10 beds, from 56 to 66. Bale says they’ve already raised half of the money they need to match the challenge grant.
