Ogden Canyon closed following accident

OGDEN — The Ogden Canyon has been temporarily closed to through traffic until approximately 2 p.m. today.

Earlier today, vehicles traveling through the canyon accidentally knocked sections of the safety barrier separating the highway from the Ogden River into the river.

As a result, through traffic on the highway in the canyon, between Ogden and Huntsville, has been suspended for safety reasons and to facilitate the removal of the barriers from the river, said Utah Department of Transportation spokesman Vic Saunders.

Homes and businesses in the canyon are still accessible from either end of the closure.

Motorists should use Interstate 84 and State Route 167, the Trappers Loop Highway, to access Ogden or Huntsville until through traffic in the canyon is completely restored.
