BOUNTIFUL -- An apartment unit in Bountiful sustained smoke and fire damage Saturday.

The fire broke out around 6 p.m. in a unit at the Mill Hollow Apartments at 600 S.100 East, said South Davis Metro Fire Agency Chief Jim Rampton.

The fire started in a bedroom, but the cause has not been determined..

When firefighters arrived there was large amount of smoke coming from the unit and there were flames in the bedroom. A man who lived in the unit was not home and was uninjured. However his dog died as a result of the fire.

There was no structural damage to the unit, but contents in the bedroom were destroyed, Rampton said.

Five other units were evacuated and affected by smoke, he said.

Residents of those units were expected to be allowed to return home Saturday night.

About 15 firefighters responded and some remained on scene at 8 p.m.
