MORGAN — It wasn’t exactly an offensive outburst, but the Morgan Trojans still won with ease on Thursday, knocking off Stansbury 51-31 to remain unbeaten in Region 11 play.
McKenzie Schenk scored a game-high 19 points and hauled in nine rebounds, while Shaylie Duncan added 10 points, including a pair of 3s to lead the Trojans (9-0 in league play, 15-2 overall) to victory.
The Stallions (4-5, 7-11) scored the first basket of the game, but then watched helplessly as the Trojans reeled off 15 straight points to put the game out of reach before the end of the first quarter. Morgan’s swarming defense, which came up with 20 steals, prevented Stansbury from ever being comfortable in their offense.
“We were getting a lot of deflections,” Morgan coach Brad Matthews said.
Morgan’s Jessica Carter contributed eight points off the bench while Breanna Hurlbut did a little of everything, with six points, five rebounds, eight steals and four assists.
No one on Stansbury reached double figures in scoring, but Madie Alvey came close with nine points – on three 3-pointers. Erika Alvey added eight.
The Trojans have won 13 straight games and are well positioned for the region title.
