Pair pleads not guilty to kidnapping

FARMINGTON — A teenage couple who police say held a 50-year-old man hostage for 12 hours in his own home entered not guilty pleas to kidnapping and robbery charges.

Jordan Marie Thornberg, 18, and Garrett Todd Sweat, 19, both with no known addresses, appeared in 2nd District Court in Farmington on Wednesday for felony arraignment hearings.

They are both charged with aggravated kidnapping and aggravated robbery, first-degree felonies, as well as theft and unlawful possession of a financial card, third-degree felonies.

Another hearing is set for Feb. 6.

They were found in West Jordan two days after they left a 50-year-old man bound by duct tape to a table in his Bountiful home on Jan. 7, Bountiful police said.
