Ruth Evanson Harding of Willard will celebrate her 90th birthday. Her family will host an open house for family and friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Feb. 2 at the Willard 4th Ward, 80 N. 100 West.
The ninth of 10 children, she was born Feb. 3, 1923, in Taber, Alberta, Canada, to John Evan Evanson and Johanna Johnson. She graduated from high school with honors. She attended teacher preparation school in Calgary, Alberta. During training, she volunteered to teach at a country school, living in a teacherage by the school.
She attended Utah State University and met Lewis Harding. They were married in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Salt Lake Temple on Sept. 23, 1946. They had seven children. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary just after he had a stroke. He died in July 1997.
In 1962, she took extension classes. In 1968, she received a bachelor’s degree from USU.
She taught third grade at Willard Elementary School for 20 years. After she and her husband retired, they spent time in Yuma, Ariz., and other places for 10 years in their motor home.
She has served in many ward and stake callings. She has been in Lady Lions, the Daughters of Utah Pioneers and Brigham City Civic Improvement Club. This year, she was chairperson of the Civic Club Christmas Home Show. She enjoys travel, friends and being involved.
They have 18 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
