Editor,
Regarding the letter of Jan. 26, “Reality check: U.S. feds won’t be outgunned,” our Second Amendment right has very little to do with hunting and recreation. It has everything to do with making tyrants think twice before robbing us of our liberty. No, we would not outgun our military! Why would we need to? Unlike our elected officials in Washington D.C., our brave men and women in uniform are willing to give their all to protect our rights! Our armed forces believe in the Constitution and the red, white and blue! They know the meaning of commitment, honor, loyalty and integrity! They are not bound to follow orders contrary to the Constitution! The Constitution is the supreme law of the land! They have also taken an oath to defend it against all enemies, foreign and domestic! We should always strive to maintain our liberty through all peaceful means possible!
In the awful event we should find it necessary to resort to non-peaceful means, it would most likely not be in a pitched battle format. Look at how well gorilla warfare has worked for the Afghans. They sent the British and the Russians both packing after about a decade. Here we are, after a decade, getting ready to do the same!
When we leave, Afghanistan will revert to the same way it has been for the last 2,000 years politically. Never forget that a rag tag group of farmers defeated the mightiest military on earth to form our nation! Oops! I forgot the Constitution defined them as a well regulated militia, since we didn’t have a standing army. You also forget that God is not neutral in the matters of men, especially liberty! After all he is the author thereof!!
It is amazing that our government is worried about semi-automatic weapons in the hands of citizens, yet they have no problem arming dictators and unfriendly governments around the world with some of the most sophisticated weapons known to man! But then, why should we worry?
