Editor,
I’m responding to the writer of the Jan. 23 letter, “Many pro-gun activists won’t compromise.” If she does not own a gun, her rights end where mine begin. Her version of compromise is she gets to dictate to me where, when, how and what I can do with my weapons. That sounds to me more like communism, not compromise.
Mr. Kelley was carrying his weapons, not “brandishing” them as she stated in her letter. I doubt that she meant to lie, so she either does not know the meaning of the word, “brandishing,” or it was just hysterical hyperbole on her part.
“Assault weapon< I believe is a newly invented phrase to create fear. I could be any object used to assault someone or something. Guns, knives, baseball bats, etc., are just objects. They can not get up and do anything on their own.
More gun control will not make anyone safe. Chicago, New York and Washington D.C., have some of the strictest gun laws in the country and about the highest crime rates as well. Columbine, Virginia tech, the Amish area, the Aurora theater, and Sandy Hook were all gun-free zones.
We should be teaching our children to learn the truth about things, and not just fear them. They need to taught to respect others and their rights. Teach them to honor and respect God, the United States of America, our flag and our Constitution. They should be taught to honor and remember the millions of people who have died to preserve our freedom, and keep us free.
