Fuel spill closes I-15 on-ramp in Woods Cross for 5 hours

WOODS CROSS — A pup trailer being pulled by a semi truck overturned at the 2600 South on-ramp to Interstate 15 Thursday night in Woods Cross.

The mishap occurred around 5:15 p.m., said South Davis Metro Fire Deputy Chief Jeff Bassett.

The semi was making a turn onto the interstate, and the pup trailer hit a barricade, which caused it to flip over, Bassett said.

The pup trailer was carrying about 3,100 gallons of diesel fuel, but spilled about only 50 gallons.

The South Davis Metro Fire hazardous materials team contained the spill from the trailer, and a private company took care of the cleanup. Another tanker truck was brought in, and the fuel from the pup trailer was transferred. Once the pup trailer was empty, it was flipped back over onto its wheels and was hauled away.

The 2600 South on-ramp was closed for about five hours.
