Vets may get school credit for service

SALT LAKE CITY — State universities will be required to grant veterans credit or competencies for certain types of military service and training under a measure being sponsored by a local lawmaker.

Legislation sponsored by Rep. Paul Ray, R-Clinton, received a unanimous recommendation from a house education committee Wednesday and will be sent to the House for further review.

Ray said the bill ensures that credits granted to a veteran for service or skills attained in the military are transferable from one Utah school to another. He praised Weber State as being one of the leaders in the state in dealing with the issue.
