RIVERTON -- A video showing two children gently petting a deer in the front yard of their Riverton home has wildlife officials concerned.
Jamie King tells KSL his two children, Isabel and Gavin, called him outside a few days before Christmas and asked him to play with the deer.
King videotaped the children walking slowly up to the doe and petting it like a dog before it prances away.
He says he never felt the deer was a threat.
Kevin Bunnell of the Utah Division of Wildlife says the deer appears to be accustomed to humans, but warns that people should avoid them. He says the deer could have panicked and kicked the children.
Bunnell warns that welcoming wildlife can be harmful both to humans and animals.
