Small plane crashes after takeoff in Woods Cross

WOODS CROSS — A small plane was damaged when it crashed Friday at the SkyPark Airport.

The accident occurred about 1:30 p.m., said Cpl. Jason Matthews of the Wood Cross Police.

The pilot realized he was having a power problem during takeoff, tried to circle the airport, but lost altitude and crashed in a field near 1200 South, Matthews said.

The plane is a single-engine Piper, said Woods Cross Police Detective Adam Osoro.

The pilot, who was the only person aboard, was uninjured.

His name was not released and the plane sustained damage to its wing and propeller.

The crash is being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration.
