Editor,
There are many hot topics in the public eye right now. Gun control is one of the hottest topics that will probably ever be on the table.
Individuals on both sides have extreme views. The founders of this wonderful country in which we live are rolling in their graves. The government has not maintained the structure on which it was founded.
Every politician has taken office with empty promises, and once in office, has laid down roots, all the while, passing laws and bills that alter or put contingencies on the Constitution. This should never have been allowed. Now we are wrestling with the Second Amendment. This is one amendment that most people feel protective of. Gun control is a complete invasion and obstruction of the Second Amendment. Guns are the tangible item in a world of intangible problems, that the government and gun-control advocates are reaching for.
The assault rife was not used in Sandy Hook. But yet it is still demonized by mass media groups. There is a hidden agenda here. Before taking any stance, look at the stats on the CDC website and FBI website and you will see that “guns” are actually on the bottom of the list of items used in homicides. My recommendation to people everywhere is to become educated before speaking on such a hot topic. Utah has never had a mass murder in schools. The shooter at Trolley Square was stopped by a concealed-carry off-duty officer.
An educated, armed society is not a dangerous society. A mentally unstable and armed society is a dangerous society. Canada has more strict gun laws and their violent crime is twice as high as the U.S. The U.K. has more strict gun laws than Canada and the U.S., and it has a violent crime rate that is four times as high as the U.S.
