LaMar Eskelsen

LaMar J. Eskelsen will celebrate his 80th birthday with family and friends from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Riverdale 1st and 7th Ward building, 4400 S. 1000 West, Riverdale. No gifts.

The oldest child and only boy, he was born Feb. 8, 1933, at home on Franklin Avenue in Ogden to Mildred Jane Jensen and Neldon Christian Eskelsen. He has four sisters: Karol Dawn (who died in infancy), Diann (deceased) and Gail Larsen, Nedra and Mike Atkinson, and Marilyn and Val Brown. He is a 1951 graduate of Ogden High School and attended Weber State College. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.

He married Carolynne Johnson in 1955, and they had two sons: Chris Eskelsen and Kent Eskelsen. They were later divorced.

He married Kathleen Robinson on Jan. 24, 1987. Their vows were later solemnized in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Bountiful Temple.

Their combined family includes Chris and Pam Eskelsen, Roy; Kent and Jane Eskelsen, Riverdale; Kimberly and Dennis Thompson, Alaska; Sheri and Duane Lovell, Washington; David and Teresa Tolman, Farr West; Monica and Rick Barton, Alaska; Dr. Brian and Catherine Tolman, West Haven; and Vance and Christina Hemsley, Alaska. They have 36 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He worked at Ogden Iron Works, various construction jobs, Marquardt Corp. and Commercial Security Bank. Forty-six years ago, he established LaMar’s Auto Sales, which he later expanded to include LaMar’s Self Storage on Wall Avenue in Ogden.

He is an active member of the LDS Church.
