Merrill John Dyson of West Point will celebrate his 80th birthday. The event will be commemorated at an open house to be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9, at West Point Lakeside Stake Center, 4000 W. 800 North.
He was born Feb. 8, 1933, in Hooper, the only child of John H. and Janet Widdison Dyson. When he was born, help was needed for the delivery from Dr. L.S. Merrill of Ogden. The trip for the doctor from Ogden to Hooper was a 12-hour journey, and he arrived with the help of sleighs and horses provided by the community. The day of his birth was a topic of conversation for many years in Hooper, and folks would always tell him they remembered the day he was born.
He married Geraldine Edwards on May 25, 1956, in West Point. Their vows were solemnized on Aug. 16, 1963, in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Salt Lake Temple.
He is a 1951 Weber High School graduate and served two years in the Army. He worked at Hill Air Force Base, ZCMI, and is still working at Walmart.
His children and their spouses are Lorraine and Brad Lund, Mark and Janae Dyson, Mary Ann and Mark Cecotti, Amy and Matt Trease, and Bruce (deceased) and Ellen Dyson. He has 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
