Cooking for cash. Baking for bucks. The Pillsbury Bake-Off is the most lucrative recipe contest of them all, giving a $1 million grand prize for the top recipe.
The redesigned 46th bake-off is now open for entries at www.BakeOff.com. If you want to enter, don't delay, because one of the deadlines is Feb. 7.
Last year, the bake-off was in Orlando, Fla., with the grand prize awarded on "The Martha Stewart Show." Since it's usually held every two years, I was surprised to hear that the contest is taking place this November in Las Vegas.
That's not the only change. Online voting will help determine the 100 finalist recipes, who will compete November 10-12 at the Aria Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. In recent years, more recipe contests have added an online voting component.
I guess it creates more buzz when contestants get their friends, family and social networking pals to go online and vote. But it's doubtful that many of the online voters actually try the recipes to see how they taste.
