Skier falls off 100-foot cliff in Little Cottonwood Canyon

SALT LAKE CITY — A backcountry skier is a hospital after falling off a cliff in Little Cottonwood Canyon.

Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal says the man was skiing Pfeifferhorn Peak on Monday when he fell about 100 feet down the cliff.

Wasatch Backcountry Rescue president Dean Cardinale says the skier had injuries to his face and a leg, but was talking and appeared to be in stable condition when he was loaded aboard a medical helicopter.

Two Snowbird ski patrollers, doubling as members of Wasatch Backcountry Rescue, were taken by the helicopter to the accident site.

Cardinale says the man was with a party of four backcountry skiers. Nobody else was injured.

Hoyal says the skier is in his 30s. His name wasn’t immediately available.

Little Cottonwood Canyon is about 20 miles southeast of Salt Lake City.
