PROVO -- Utah Attorney General John Swallow says he's "disgusted and heartbroken" over allegations he was part of a high-level bribery scheme but that it won't keep him from doing his job.
The Daily Herald of Provo reports that Swallow asserted his innocence during a luncheon Monday of a group known as Utah County Republican Women.
Swallow says he asked for a federal investigation and that he believes it will clear his name.
Swallow says he was shocked barely a week after he took office by the allegations from a Utah businessman charged with Internet fraud. Jeremy Johnson has said Swallow was part of a failed effort derail a federal investigation into his business practices.
Swallow has said he only referred Johnson to lobbyists who could influence the Federal Trade Commission.
