There are presently over 300 million guns in homes across the United States. So new laws altering future production would have little or no effect on the present problem.
A more sensible bill would encourage present gun owners and manufacturers to become more responsible. This could be done with tax incentives to purchase gun safes and gun locks.
The majority of the shootings and incidents are done by immature or undesirable people that have access to firearms. Manufacturers could easily design existing technology for locks into their pistols and rifles. Firearms could be inoperable unless a key, manual or electronic code, unlocked it.
Every home and auto made has locks on them. Legislation, including tax incentives for owners and manufacturers, could be introduced on a state and or federal level. This type of approach should be promoted by the NRA as a better solution in response to the what the Obama administration has planned.
Utah legislators could spearhead a state-wide bill which is more sensible using tax incentives as opposed restrictive laws.
