BOUNTIFUL -- A girls soccer coach is accused of having had a sexual relationship with a girl from the time she was 13 years old until she was 16.
Steve Dale Green, 41, of Bountiful, was booked in Davis County Jail on Wednesday on one count of rape of a child, one count of sodomy on a child, one count of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, one count of rape, one count of sodomy and one count of forcible sexual abuse, all first-degree felonies.
Bountiful Assistant Police Chief Ed Biehler said the girl, who is now 17, told a relative about the sexual relationship. The relative contacted the girl's parents, and they contacted the police Jan. 31.
Police arrested Green at a gym Wednesday morning, "because we were told he had weapons at his house, and we wanted to be able to control the situation," Biehler said.
Biehler said he does not know if Green coached a city recreation soccer team or a competitive soccer team.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Green was a coach of the girl's team and she "became good friends with the family." He began the sexual relationship in 2008 by inappropriately touching the girl, and it progressed to sexual intercourse.
The sex continued for three years, "happening almost every day" at Green's home, according to the affidavit.
Biehler said police are investigating to see if there may be more victims.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Green said he wanted an attorney and did not speak to police.
The Davis County Attorney's Office is reviewing the case before filing formal charges in 2nd District Court.
Anyone who has information about possible other victims is asked to call police at 801-298-6000.
