WOODS CROSS -- A drug bust netted a pound of marijuana and a stolen semiautomatic rifle out of a Woods Cross motel, officials said.
Davis Metro Narcotics Strike Force Lt. Mark Chatlin said another agency contacted the strike force with a tip about a man from Oregon who may have had marijuana in his possession.
Officers did a surveillance of the area Friday, spotted the man at a nearby gas station and did a traffic stop, Chatlin said.
They then got a search warrant for the man's motel room, where they found an AR-15 rifle, which had been reported stolen out of Cache County, and one pound of marijuana.
Officers arrested Peter Johnson, 49, and booked him in Davis County Jail on one count of possession of a stolen firearm, a second-degree felony; and one count of possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute and one count of possession of a firearm by a restricted person, both third-degree felonies. He is being held in lieu of $20,000 bail.
The Davis County Attorney's Office is reviewing the case before filing formal charges in 2nd District Court.
