Editor,
Yahoo! Tuesday, Feb. 5, Senator Jim Dabakis, a Democrat from Senate District 2, and Representative Patrice Arent, a Democrat from House District 36, announced an incredibly important joint resolution calling for protection of our Greater Canyonlands. It’s “our Greater Canyonlands” as in mine, yours, Utah’s, and all in our United States.
I’ll never forget the first time my husband and I drove through this area with our very young daughters. I noticed we were all whispering and realized it was as though we were inside a gigantic holy cathedral or temple. That sense of sacredness and awe has never left us when we are there. My daughters, now adults with husbands and children and all living outside Utah, still come back to be in Red Rock Country as they call it, Greater Canyonlands. Now, they bring friends and their families with them too.
Something this special has to be shared. I will be back on the White Rim in April, camping and hiking with friends and my husband’s memory again and counting my blessings of living so close to such an awe-inspiring, spectacular, and peace giving place. And it’s ours!
Now, I just hope our Utah legislature, our Congress, our president realize the importance of their stewardship in preserving the Greater Canyonlands area for me, for you, and for all of our future generations to follow. It’s irreplaceable.
