SALT LAKE CITY -- Utah lawmakers will consider three separate measures dealing with firearms at the same time, House Speaker Rebecca Lockhart, R-Provo, says.
Lockhart said it makes sense to consider the gun proposals together, so legislators can consider how the different measures may impact each other. The specifics of the measures are still being put together, the House leader said.
When the proposals are ready, they will be assigned to a House committee for consideration.
"We talked about a strategy of keeping them all together and sending them out all together, so whatever committee hears them can hear them in context of each other. It makes it easier for us as policy makers," Lockhart said.
Senate leaders have discussed in caucus how to handle gun legislation, but are waiting to see the specifics.
Senate President Wayne Niederhauser, R-Sandy, said no gun measures have been initiated in the Senate.
