Editor,
Ernest Rowley, the Weber County Recorder/Surveyor, claims he can’t fix his department’s own mistake on the title to my house. I bought a house in Hooper last spring and have been fighting the title company and Weber County ever since to get my title corrected. Mr. Rowley admits there is a mistake in the record and claims he does not have the authority to fix it. If the recorder doesn’t have authority to fix his own mistake who does?
After I put an offer on the house, we couldn’t close for several weeks because I was told there was an issue with the title. The real estate agent who listed the house signed a letter saying the problem was cleared. Everyone including the title company is passing the buck and claims everything is fine. Well, it’s not!
I can’t put my house in my living trust, my name is not on county records and two people including me are getting statements from the county for property taxes. After not ever receiving return calls from Ernest Rowley I finally was let into his office and he said he was sorry, but there is nothing he could do.
