Murray police shooting called justified

SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake County district attorney says a Murray officer was justified in shooting a suicidal man who raised a pellet gun at police.

District Attorney Sim Gill says 37-year-old Shawn Michael Campbell made a 9-11 call that brought eight officers to his residence Jan. 8.

Gill says Campbell ignored police commands to drop his gun and was shot twice when he threatened police.

Gill cleared Police Officer Trent Pearson of the shooting.

Campbell survived two shots and faces a charge of aggravated assault.
