SALT LAKE CITY -- Makenna Hill, the 2013 Youth of the Year of Boys & Girls Clubs of Weber-Davis, has won the Utah Youth of the Year award .
Lt. Gov. Greg Bell announced the winner during the Youth of the Year breakfast at the state Capitol on Thursday.
Makenna has attended the Boys & Girls Club in Roy for three years and is involved with Upward Bound program.
State Rep. Curtis Oda, R-Clearfield, praised Makenna at the Youth of the Year breakfast. "Due to family circumstances, Makenna at age 8 became the caregiver for her two younger sisters as her mother worked two full-time jobs. With Makenna's strong character, she took it upon herself to become the 'glue that held the family together,' " said Oda.
Makenna is a senior at Clearfield High where she maintains a 3.9 GPA.
She is the mayor of the Clearfield City Youth Council and is involved in various service projects. Makenna is planning to become a pediatric nurse practitioner.
